Gunmen have attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi state.
In a statement, Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, spokesperson of the Kebbi police command, said the assailants abducted 25 students during the attack.
He added that they were “armed with sophisticated weapons” and “stormed the school around 4:00am, engaging police personnel on duty in a gun duel”.
The police confirmed that Hassan Makuku, the school’s vice principal, lost his life during the attack, while Ali Shehu, a security guard, sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

The gunmen thereafter fled towards neighbouring Zamfara with the abducted students, a teacher said.
Bello Muhammad Sani, the commissioner of police in Kebbi, said additional police tactical units, alongside military personnel and vigilance groups, have been deployed in the area.
“The combined team is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search and rescue operation aimed at recovering the abducted students and arresting the perpetrators,” the statement reads.
“The commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.”
