Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Adamu Usman, the member representing Toungo Constituency in the Adamawa state house of assembly.

Usman was said to be kidnapped by the gunmen, who stormed his residence at Kofare Ward of Yola close to midnight on Friday.

Confirming the incident, Othman Abubakar, public relations officer of the Adamawa state police command, said the lawmaker was taken away at gunpoint. He added that the police were investigating the incident.

Usman is one of the only two members of Adamawa assembly who won their re-election to the house for a second term after defecting from PDP to APC in the just-concluded general election.

The incident brings to three the number of kidnaps recorded in the state within six months.

Sani Ribadu, brother of Malam Nuhu Ribadu, as well as Wilson Gundiri, brother of Markus Gundiri, were also kidnapped before they were later released.

Gindiri was the Adamawa SDP gubernatorial candidate in the just-concluded general election.
