The Benue state police command has announced the abduction of Tsavwua Gborigyo, provost of the College of Education, Katsina-Ala.

Catherine Anene, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the incident on Monday.

Anene said the provost was abducted during the weekend at Ihugh in Vandiekya area of the state while returning from a burial.

She said no contact had been established with the kidnappers, appealing to the public to assist with any information that would lead to the rescue of the provost.

The rate of kidnapping in the country has increased despite efforts by the security agencies to address the situation.
Earlier in the month, Abubakar Idris, a lecturer with the Federal University, Dutsinma in Katsina, was abducted by gunmen.
Yakubu Sabo, a spokesperson of the state police command, had said the lecturer was abducted at his residence in Kaduna metropolis.

In May, some gunmen had abducted the wife of a lecturer with the Niger Delta University (NDU) at Gbarantoru community in Yenagoa.
