Gunmen have reportedly abducted an unidentified number of passengers, including the body of a deceased at Umuoka community in Udi LGA, Enugu state.

The victims were said to be heading to Enugu from Lagos for the burial of the deceased identified as Isreal Ugwuanyi before their bus was attacked on Sunday by the gunmen.

A family source said the kidnappers have reached out to the family to demand N50 million ransom for the release of the victims and the corpse.

The source said the family members are worried that the corpse would have decomposed before the kidnappers released it and the victims.

“The bus conveying the corpse of Ugwuanyi and other people was attacked at Umuoka Udi LGA of Enugu state,” he said.

“He died in Lagos. We have spent so much money on the sickness of the deceased and planning the burial ceremony.

“I don’t know the exact number of people who were kidnapped alongside the corpse because there were some family members inside the bus during the incident.

“It is possible that the corpse would have decayed when they released the victims.”

Daniel Ndukwe, Enugu police spokesperson, told TheCable on Monday that he had not received the report of the incident.
