Gunmen abduct deputy director, security guard at University of Nigeria teaching hospital

Gunmen have reportedly abducted the deputy director of nursing services and a security guard at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu state.

The incident was said to have happened around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Boniface Uchelue, spokesperson of the institution, said the gunmen trailed the unnamed deputy director of the hospital who was heading to set up the theatre for surgery.

He said security agencies have been notified about the incident.

“She was coming to work on time, around 7:30 am, because there was a case in the theatre and she is the theatre manager,” AIT quoted Boniface as saying.

“So, she was coming in the morning to set up the theatre for the surgery and she was accosted by armed kidnappers who overpowered her, and whisked her away.

“The law enforcement are on the trail of the kidnappers. The commissioner of police is aware, the state governor is aware. DSS, forest guards, they are all aware.”

Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson of the Enugu police command, was not immediately available when contacted for comments by TheCable on the incident.
