His police orderly was said to have been killed in the attack.

Ramhan Nansel, the state police spokesman, confirmed this to NAN on Saturday.

The spokesman said based on preliminary investigation, the incident happened around 7:30pm on Friday at Gudi area of Akwanga LGA.

He said one person, who was believed to be an aide to the chairman, was also abducted during the attack.

According to the police spokesperson, Adesina Soyemi, the state commissioner of police, immediately deployed police personnel of the anti-kidnapping unit and police mobile force to the scene.

He said the police would conduct a comprehensive investigation to unveil those responsible for the abduction and killing of the officer, and to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

This is not the first case of abduction in Nasarawa in recent times.

TheCable had reported how four students of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa state, were kidnapped at Mararaba, a community close to the institution’s campus.

The school management, however, announced their release three days later.
