Henry Gotip, the chairperson of Kanke LGA, Plateau state, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The assailants reportedly invaded Gotip’s home in Kwang, Jos north LGA, early Wednesday.

They were said to have shot randomly to frighten locals in the neighbourhood before whisking Gotip away.

Alfred Alabo, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Plateau, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Wednesday.

“It is true that he was kidnapped. We are doing everything to rescue him,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the tactical team are currently on the trail of the kidnappers, adding that an update will be provided on the rescue operation.

Like most states in the north-central geo-political zone, Plateau has been targeted by gunmen who raid communities, abduct and kill residents.

In August, seven persons were killed, while two others sustained injuries after assailants attacked Danda Chugwi village in Jos south LGA.

Three months prior, Muhammad Baba-Shehu, chairman of Keffi LGA of Nasarawa state, was kidnapped. His police orderly was killed in the attack.
