Gunmen have reportedly abducted Loveday Akari, a senior special assistant to the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred on Friday.

The publication quoted sources as saying that the kidnappers fled in a boat, which was later discovered deserted a short distance from the crime scene.

“In response, security forces activated blocking positions to restrict the hoodlums’ movement while electronic surveillance assets were deployed to locate their hideout,” the publication said.

Makama said a joint services team, including the Nigerian Navy’s tactical, and marine unit has been mobilised to rescue the victims.

The publication said security forces are intensifying the hunt for the kidnappers in Onuebum and Ayakoro, adding that search-and-rescue efforts continue to secure Akari’s release and apprehend the culprits.

On March 4, gunmen kidnapped Philip Ekeli, a Catholic priest, and Peter Andrew, a seminarian, from St. Peter Catholic church in Iviukwa, Etsako East LGA of Edo state.
