Gunmen ‘abduct seven family members, shoot two police officers’ in Abuja

Gunmen have reportedly abducted seven persons from the same family and shot two police officers in Bwari area council of the federal capital territory (FCT).

The gunmen were said to have attacked the residence of the family members in Zuma 1 area in the early hours of Thursday.

Sources said when the bandits invaded their residence, the affected family members quickly informed their relative identified as Alhaji, of the development.

Alhaji was said to have quickly informed the police of the predicament of the family members.

The gunmen reportedly exchanged gunfire with the police who tried to prevent the abduction.

Alhaji was said to have been shot dead, while the two police officers sustained injuries during the gun duel.

When contacted for comments, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT police command, did not respond to calls or messages.

There has been a spate of bandit attacks in and around the Bwari area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, in recent times. Some families have relocated from the area due to the incessant attacks.
