Gunmen abduct two councillors, imam in Zamfara

The Zamfara police command says suspected gunmen have abducted two councillors and an imam, in Tsauni community, Gusau LGA.

Yazid Abubakar, the police spokesperson in the state, relayed that the councillors, representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun LGA, alongside the community imam, were kidnapped on Wednesday night in front of their houses after prayers.

Tsauni community, located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector command headquarters in Gusau, also hosts internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by banditry.

Abubakar said police operatives have been deployed to the area and efforts are underway to rescue the victims. He urged residents to provide timely information to aid security efforts.

“They later released three persons and left with the two councillors and the imam,” NAN quoted Gamagiwa as saying.

“So far, they have yet to contact any one of us to know their demands.”
