Gunmen ambush police patrol, ‘kill officer, two residents’ in Nasarawa

Gunmen have reportedly killed a police officer and two residents during an ambush on a patrol team in Doma LGA of Nasarawa state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the attack occurred at about 6:30 pm on Sunday along Ajimaka village road, onwards to Rukubi town.

Makana said the team, attached to Operation Restore Peace and led by Jampi Mbursa, a police inspector, was ambushed while on routine rounds alongside local vigilante members.

The publication reported that the attackers shot Mbursa and two civilians, identified as Julius Igbogh and Raphael Julius, both residents of Ajimaka village.

Makama noted that the assailants reportedly made away with the inspector’s AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

It said the victims were taken to a nearby hospital where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel, adding that their bodies were deposited at the mortuary.

The report said efforts are ongoing by the police to recover the stolen firearm and apprehend those responsible for the ambush.
