Gunmen attack another Akwa Ibom police station — second in one week

Gunmen have attacked Odoro Ikpe police station in Ini LGA of Akwa Ibom state.

The hoodlums set some police vehicles ablaze during the attack which took place in the early hours of Saturday.

Some officers were said to have been killed in the attack but TheCable could not immediately confirm the number of fatalities.

When contacted, Odiko Ogbeche-Macdon, spokesman of the state police command, was unable to provide more information on the attack.

The incident is the second attack on a police station in Akwa Ibom in the past week.

On May 1, two police officers were killed when gunmen attacked a police station in Ikono LGA.

Two police officers were also killed on April 28 during an attack on Ika divisional headquarters in the state.

Before then, a police station had also been razed by gunmen in Udim LGA.

Akwa Ibom is one of the states in the south-east where police officers have been targeted by armed criminals in recent times.

Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra and Enugu are other states that have recorded similar attacks.
