Gunmen attack Taraba community, kill district head

Gunmen have reportedly killed Ali Hakimi, the district head of Sarkin Kudu town in Ibbi LGA of Taraba state.

 Abdullahi Usman, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the attack to TheCable on Saturday.

Usman said the gunmen invaded the residence of the district head at about 11 p.m. on Thursday.

The police spokesperson said during the attack, the gunmen shot the community leader in the head.

He said the district head was rushed to a health centre in the town where he was confirmed dead.

“Yes, it has been confirmed. He was attacked at his house. It was an overnight attack. The incident occurred around 23:50 hours on the 14th of December,” he said.

Usman could not ascertain how many assailants attacked the residence of the late district head, saying “ the number of the gunmen is not certain”.

“It was some armed men who invaded his house and after some altercation, they shot him in the head,” he added.

“He was confirmed dead at a community health care centre in Sarkin Kudu town.”

Over the years, Taraba communities have been terrorised by gunmen and criminal groups who attack and kill residents.

There have also been cases of communal clashes and herdsmen attacks in Ussa, Bali, Sardauna, Wukari, and Karim among other LGAs in the state.
