Fatimah, daughter of the late Aminat Abiodun, former Iyalode of Ibadan, has been killed by gunmen.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday in Basorun, Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

A family source told TheCable that suspected assassins broke into Fatimah’s residence and shot her.

“I was just told that our sister, daughter of the late Iyalode Abiodun, was assassinated in Basorun,” the source said.

“It was an unprovoked attack in her house given that Fatimah was a peace-loving person. Information I have says she was shot several times by the gunmen.

“Her influence had grown over the years and she used everything she had to promote humanity. This is a big loss to the family. I don’t have more information at this moment.”

When contacted for confirmation, Adewale Osifeso, Oyo police spokesman, did not respond to calls and messages sent to him.

The deceased’s mother, who became Iyalode in August 2007 following the death of Wuraola Akintola, died in 2018 at the age of 93.

Before her death, she was the representative of women in the Olubadan-in-council.
