One person had been shot dead, while two others were abducted by suspected gunmen, following an attack on a community in Birnin Kudu LGA of Jigawa state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday evening, when the gunmen invaded the house of one Abubakar, a resident of Kawo quarters in Birnin Kudu town.

The gunmen reportedly killed one of his sons, and kidnapped his wife and an eight-year-old boy.

Zubairu Aminudeen, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Jigawa, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

“The incident occurred at about 0325HRS at Birnin Kudu town where unknown persons trespassed, attacked and shot one of his sons on the chest and took his wife and another son to an unknown destination,” the police spokesman said.

Aminudeen said the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu by the police, but was confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson noted that officers of the anti-kidnapping unit have been dispatched on a search-and-rescue mission to ensure the safe return of the abducted persons, and the arrest the culprits.

He added that relative calm has returned to the area, as measures have been put in place to forestall future attacks.

Aminudeen also advised members of the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the police.
