Gunmen kill three police officers in Rivers

At least three police officers have been killed following an attack by gunmen in Rivers state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday night in Rumuokoro, Obio-Akpor LGA of the state.

The assailants were said to have abducted a director of an oil and gas firm after killing the officers who were on escort duty.

When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, police spokesperson in Rivers, said the command is “still investigating” the attack.

She added that more information would be provided when the investigation is concluded.

The development is the latest in a series of recorded attacks by gunmen against police officers in the country.

Last month, two officers were killed when gunmen invaded a police station in Oji-River LGA of Enugu state. The assailants also set the station ablaze and made away with guns and ammunition.

In September, a divisional crime officer at the Iganna divisional police headquarters in Iwajowa LGA, Oyo state, was killed while trying to repel an attack on the facility.

The incident also resulted in the death of a male civilian in custody at the facility.
