Four officers have been reportedly killed in an attack on a police station in Imo state.

The assailants were said to have overrun the police station in Agwa, Oguta LGA of the state on Friday night.

A section of the police station, including vehicles in the yard, were said to have been set ablaze.

Mike Abattem, police spokesperson in Imo, confirmed the development to TheCable on Saturday.

“It’s true four officers were killed,” he said.

The Punch quoted a source as saying the gunmen also attacked the home of a commercial motorcycle rider and shot him dead.

“I was already inside when I started hearings sounds of gunshots. I didn’t bother coming outside because it was safer to stay indoors than to come outside,” a source was quoted as saying.

“They also went to the house of an Okada man known as Ejike, shot him dead and shot his wife. His wife is alive.”

The development comes less than a week after gunmen attacked Orogwe community in Owerri west LGA of the state, killing seven people.
