Gunmen raze home of Imo commissioner

Gunmen on Sunday reportedly set ablaze the home of Declan Emelumba, commissioner for information and strategy in Imo state.

The attack was said to have occurred in the commissioner’s hometown in Ubulu-Ihejiofor, Oru West LGA of the state.

The attack reportedly happened in the early hours on Sunday.

Two houses in the compound were allegedly burnt down.

It is not immediately clear if there was any casualty from the attack.

Earlier in the day, officers of the Imo police command killed five gunmen in a foiled attack on the command.

Four AK-47 rifles were recovered from the gunmen.

In recent weeks, Imo has come under attack by gunmen.

Gunmen have targeted police stations, offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other public infrastructure in the state.

Last week, gunmen attacked Izombe police station in Oguta LGA of Imo and set it ablaze.

In April, gunmen attacked the federal prison and police command headquarters in Owerri, freeing 1,844 inmates.
