Gymnastics coach dumps Nigeria for Ethiopia, says ‘I’m not appreciated’

Tony Asuquo, a Nigerian gymnastics coach, says he joined an Ethiopian club because the country does not appreciate him.

Asuquo is the first Nigerian gymnastics coach to get the certification of world gymnastics body, Federation International Gymnastics (FIG).

The proprietor of Tony International Gymnastics club on Wednesday told NAN that he had just finished a medical session with the club.

Asuquo said he is on a six-month renewable contract with a club in the East African country.

“I am not comfortable with events happening in the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria (GFN) where I am a board member,” the coach said.

“It is just a pity that my efforts and wealth of experience are not appreciated in Nigeria, but I prefer to work for Nigeria.”

The aesthetics and aerobic gymnastics expert refused to disclose the name of his new club “owing to personal reasons”.
