‘He can’t win any election’ — group dismisses Shaibu as ‘paperweight’ in Edo politics

The Young Edo Professionals (YEP), a political group, says Philip Shaibu, the reinstated deputy governor of the state, cannot win any election in the state.

Shaibu and Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, have been at loggerheads following the deputy governor’s interest in contesting the 2024 Edo governorship election.

In April, the Edo state house of assembly impeached Shaibu for “misconduct, perjury, and disclosure of government secrets”.

Earlier this month, a federal high court in Abuja ordered Shaibu’s reinstatement.

Subsequently, Shaibu dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Tuesday, Osasuyi Anselm, leader of YEP, said Shuaibu is not relevant in Edo politics.

He said the deputy governor has never won any election in his entire political career, adding that it is a waste of time for politicians to take him seriously.

“Politically, Shuaibu can’t win any election but hides behind others to gain political relevance. His cross-carpeting was a riddance to political lilliputian,” the statement reads.

“Shuaibu is simply a noise maker who moves from one political party to another because of pecuniary interest, knowing too well that on his own he can never win any election.”
