The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo state has endorsed Teslim Folarin, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate. 

Speaking on Thursday during an emergency state congress attended by party leaders from across the 33 LGAs in Oyo, Michael Okunlade, state SDP chairman, said he was confident in the collaboration with the APC candidate.

Okunlade said his party decided to go with the APC candidate in view of some wrongs done to them by the Seyi Makinde-led administration in the state.

“We believe that to right these wrongs, there is a need for us to form a virile coalition with a party that can dislodge this administration that has shown itself to be lacking in development,” NAN quoted him as saying.

The SDP chairman said after several meetings with major stakeholders, even outside their party, they resolved to go with Folarin.

 However, he said the support was just for the governorship and called on supporters to vote for the SDP house of assembly candidates.

“Our decision is not based on anything than the development of our dear state. He has the record. He is not someone who would promise what he won’t do,” he said.

“He is as straight as that. All these said I like to enjoin all of us to go out en masse and vote for SDP house of assembly candidates.”

The SDP gubernatorial candidate is Michael Folorunsho Lana.

It was not clear if he was part of the congress that endorsed the APC candidate.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party in the state has endorsed Makinde, the governor, as its candidate.

Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is seeking reelection in the state.

He is a member of the G-5 governors that opposed the presidential bid of Atiku Abubakar, following which the PDP lost in Oyo to the APC in the February 25 elections.
