The Nigerian police have ordered the redeployment of Abayomi Shogunle, head of the public complaint rapid response unit (PCRRU), to Ebonyi state.

Frank Mba, police spokesman, confirmed the development.

Shogunle, an assistant commissioner of police, was transferred from Lagos to Nkalagu in Ishielu local government area of the south-eastern state.

Shogunle has in recent times made controversial comments on trending issues.

During the rise of killings by trigger-happy police officers, Shogunle asked Nigerians to speak pidgin to them to avoid trouble.

Most recently, he said prostitution is a sin under the two major religions practised in the federal capital territory (FCT). He was commenting on the detention and conviction of some women who were arrested for alleged prostitution at different locations within Abuja.

There are speculations that his transfer might be connected to his controversial statements, though TheCable cannot independently verify this.

Like his comments, his redeployment has got Nigerians talking on Twitter, with many mocking him.
