President Bola Tinubu has described Shehu Dikko, chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), as “a reformer”.

In a birthday message to Dikko, who turned 55 on Friday, the president credited the sports administrator with the “revamping the domestic football league”.

Dikko was a two-term chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), the body that oversaw the affairs of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

LMC was, however, scrapped in 2022.

Tinubu said Dikko has “dedicated his career to building integrity-driven institutions in Nigerian sports”.

The president added that under Dikko’s leadership, the NSC has become a “more accountable, dynamic, and performance-driven sports institution”.

“He has demonstrated a rare combination of vision, discipline, and humility,” the statement said.

“President Tinubu commends Mallam Dikko for his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s sports ecosystem and his unwavering commitment to excellence.

“As he marks this milestone, the President wishes him continued health, strength, and greater accomplishments in service to the nation.”

Tinubu appointed Dikko as chairman of NSC in 2024 after the commission was reinstated as replacement for the ministry of sports.
