HELP: N10m will save Funmi, retired teacher, from the cruel hands of breast cancer

HELP: N10m will save Funmi, retired teacher, from the cruel hands of breast cancer

Scientist, humanitarian donors, philantrophist, doctors, academic researchers, and a host of experts from different walks of life are battling to save the entire human race from the cold, callous and cruel hands of cancer — with magnificent progress.

Much has been done, but much more needs to be done. As it stands today, the struggle is saving one life at a time, and Shuaib Funmilayo is our fresh opportunity to save one of humanity’s  greatest gift — the gift of life.

In June 2016, Funmilayo, a retired primary school teacher and a mother of two, was diagnosed to have breast cancer, and was in need of chemotherapy, which many middle-class workers cannot afford in Nigeria today.

“My mum was diagnosed of breast cancer last June and we have exhausted all we have on Chemotherapy which they said will help resolve the health challenge,” Oluwaseun Shuaib, her son (pictured next to her), told TheCable.

“Ideally the chemotherapy should be consecutively done but unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to finance five times consecutive treatment which made the cancer resurface after it seems to have subsided, after gulping a huge amount of money.

“I hope to appeal to the kindhearted populace in donating to save her life.”

DOCTORS’ INDUSTRIAL  ACTION WORSENED HER CASE

When it all started, she was taken to Federal Teaching Hospital Ido Ekiti, but due to incessant strikes and inadequate care, she was taken to a private hospital for better care.

“She started feeling some pains under her right armpit early 2016 and that prompted us to visit the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido Ekiti and after series of tests, she was diagnosed of Breast cancer.

“Incessant strike actions made us change to Heirs Hospital Oye Ekiti, a private Hospital. While passing through the various tests at FTH and HSH, she was ageing so fast and loosing weight so quickly.

“She is currently on admission at Heirs Specialist Hospital, Oye Ekiti. She requires another 5 consecutive chemotherapy which would be followed with surgery…double mastectomy (removal of both breasts).”

N10 MILLION CAN SAVE FUNMILAYO

Oluwaseun, who is a veterinary doctor, says his mother will need about N10 million for the necessary treatments his mother needs.

“At HSH, we were told she would pass through five series of chemo to kill the cancer cells. She had her first one in November 2016 and was supposed to repeat the treatment after three weeks.

“Along the line, she kept having series of checks and tests to know the body condition of vital organs. She was also being transfused. Since we couldn’t make the next chemo due to financial constraints, we were told to start all over again for ‘breaking the treatment chain’.

“Everything we spent on the first treatment was gone. We had to start again in January 2017 through the support if kindhearted individuals and we are left with four more rounds of chemotherapy (and tests) which are very costly, thus our cry and appeal to the public to assist us.

“For this, we are looking for something between seven to 10 million naira which covers other preoperative and post operative cares…this we cannot bear on our own and in fact, we are even owing the hospital and we must fulfill that before thinking of the next treatment — so we had no choice than to move her home and hope favour would smile on us someday.”

Without help, all the resources Funmilayo’s family have committed into her treatment will be a waste. To help, please make payments to the account below:
