The only thing Sandra knows about her father is the name: Tunde.

Yes, it’s that bad. She knows neither a second name nor surname. And, oh well, she was told he hails from Osun state. Where in Osun? She does not know!

Mercy Olaye, Sandra’s mother who lived in Benin, Edo state, had travelled to Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire to seek a better life when she met Tunde. Their union would produce Sandra in June 1999.

Sadly, Sandra lost her mother when she was barely six months. She fell ill and upon returning to Benin to treat herself, she died. Sandra’s grandmother, who is now aged, raised the baby girl.

“My aunt who met with my dad in Abidjan told me he is tall and fair complexioned,” Sandra said of her father.

“I was told he moved from Abidjan to France. He was supposed to travel with my mum, but she fell ill and she came to Nigeria with me as a baby. She died and I never got to know my father.”

The 21-year-old Sandra, who is currently seeking university admission, wouldn’t want anything more than a father she could call hers.

“I know my father is still alive. I really want him. People laugh at me, some call me a bastard. I want this to come to an end.”

Sandra’s mother was from Egor local government area in Edo state. She worked as a hairstylist.
