Herbicide containers are dangerous so food and drinks should not be in the empty cans, Charles Anudu, chairman of Candel company limited, has said.

Anudu said this on Thursday at an event to launch the ‘Candel cleanfarm project’.

The project is designed to rid farms of herbicide bottles and remnants of agrochemicals which pose significant health hazards to the ecosystem.

“Most of what we (Candel company limited) make kills… but there is no way anything eaten should be in the container. Nothing should be consumed in these bottles,” Anudu said.

Anudu described hydro-chemicals, what pesticide is made of, as electricity.

“They can help, but they can be abusive,” he said.

He said the cleanfarm project is necessary because anyone could fall victim of reuse of toxic waste like the bottles that house the company’s herbicides.

Anudu said his company decided to buy the bottles from the farmers and reuse one or two times before disposing them.

He said the practice will be safe and better for the environment.

Also speaking at the event was Emmanuel Kattie, managing director of the Candel Company, who said the cleanfarm project will enhance the welfare of farmers across the country.

He announced a raffle draw and a promo where tricycles, generators and a grand prize of N1 million would be won.
