Senate President Bukola Saraki led his colleagues to the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday night.

The lawmakers, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari, discussed  their resolution concerning the killings in Benue and other parts of the country.

Earlier, both chambers of the national assembly had called on the federal government to take decisive action against those behind the killings.

The senate had given Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, a 14-day ultimatum to arrest the perpetrators of the Benue attacks, which led to the deaths of 73 persons.

“It’s just a follow up, you know I was here with the speaker two nights ago. Today is our first day in session, and if you followed, we debated the issue of the unfortunate incident in Benue,” he told state house correspondents.

“We came here to brief the president on some of our resolutions, particularly concerning security.”

On his part, Ita Enang, senior special assistant to the president on national assembly matters,  said, “I want to commend the senate for debating the issues of security with the greatest passion void of political affiliations.”
