Suspected herdsmen disrupted the schedule of Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, for about 30 minutes on Saturday, according to THISDAY.

The incident was said to have occurred between 4 and 4:30pm while the governor was on tour of some projects in Amakohia, Orlu Road in Owerri, the state capital.

The governor’s security detail reportedly moved in before normalcy was restored.

Herdsmen have been in the news in recent times over indiscriminate killings, the latest happening in Nimbo, a community in Enugu state.

Okorocha was among the governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who visited Enugu to commiserate with Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, governor of the state, over the tragic incident.

In Abia, the government has approved the deployment of Bakassi Boys, the state’s vigilante outfit, to all rural communities to boost security.

Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of the state, also directed all monarchs in Abia to nominate 10 youths that will join a planned intensive training of the vigilante group.

Ikpeazu’s action was prompted by a clash between solders and butchers in Aba, which led to the killing of two butchers, almost resulting into an ethnic clash.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the inspector general of police to check the activities of rampaging herdsmen.
