‘He’s committed to national development’ — Benue APC senators, reps endorse Tinubu for second term

Lawmakers representing Benue state in the two chambers of the national assembly have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The lawmakers made the endorsement under the platform of the Benue APC NASS caucus.

Titus Zam, senator representing Benue north-west, read the resolution contained in a communique on behalf of the group at a briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday.

Zam said the decision was informed by Tinubu’s “transformative leadership” and the administration’s “tangible achievements” in the state and the north-central region.

“Our endorsement is rooted in a comprehensive assessment of President Tinubu’s transformative leadership, his unwavering commitment to national development, and the tangible achievements recorded under his administration since 29th May 2023,” he said.

The lawmaker cited several infrastructure projects as justification for their decision.

He listed the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja superhighway, the Makurdi–Aliade–Otukpo–Enugu road, and the 9th Mile–Otukpo–Makurdi dual carriageway as landmark initiatives.

Zam said the construction of the N83.8 billion Bukuru bridge over the Katsina-Ala River would boost economic activities in the region.

He also praised the rehabilitation of the Oju–Cross River federal road, which they said was facilitated by federal and state governments collaboration.

“These projects not only stimulate economic activities but also create employment opportunities for Nigerians,” he added.

According to Zam, the lawmakers commended the federal government for launching the renewed hope housing scheme and Pulaku initiative, including the construction of 1,250 housing units in Benue.

They noted that Tinubu’s economic policies have improved federal allocations to the state, which received N44 billion in various funds since 2023.

The caucus also acknowledged efforts in the health and education sectors, including upgrades to the Federal University of Health Sciences and the new teaching hospital in Otukpo.

The lawmakers said the federal government has approved the establishment of an infectious disease control centre in Vandeikya and a college of agriculture in Opialu Ojapo.

They noted that the creation of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) was a strategic move to address development deficits in the region.

On security, the lawmakers praised Tinubu’s deployment of more personnel to secure the state but urged the Benue government to do more.

“We believe the fight against insecurity cannot be left to the federal government alone,” they said.

“We look forward to seeing more proactive collaboration and genuine intelligence gathering from the state government as a critical step toward restoring peace and protecting our communities.”

They pledged to continue advocating for peacebuilding, reconstruction, and support for displaced farmers across the state.
