A group called the Asiwaju Good Governance and Media Centre (AGGMC) has commended the president for prioritising security.

The commendation comes in the wake of the president’s meeting with security chiefs and heads of security agencies at the presidential villa on Thursday, June 1.

In a statement on Friday, Ochonu Williams, head of the group, said the president has kept the promise made in his manifesto.

Tinubu held his first security meeting with Lucky Irabor, chief of defence staff; Farouk Yahaya, chief of army staff; Awwal Gambo, chief of air staff; and Isiaka Amao, chief of naval staff.

Others present were Usman Baba, the inspector-general of police; Yusuf Bichi, director-general of the Department of State Service (DSS); and Ahmed Abubakar, director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The president warned the security chiefs against “working at cross purposes and colliding with each other”.

He added that all security agencies must be on the same page.

Reacting to the meeting proceedings, Williams described the event as “steps towards a safer and prosperous Nigeria”.

He added that the “level of patriotism, commitment” of Tinubu shall revive security and other aspects of the nation.

“The president made it clear that he will give security topmost attention if elected. And indeed, he has kept his word and has given a new sense of direction to the leadership of the country,” the AGGMC president said.

“President Tinubu has given a strong charge to the security chiefs to come out with a clear blueprint to end insecurity. He warned that he didn’t have the luxury of time, meaning he demands immediate action.

“We want to commend the president for this and also urge him not to relent. We believe that with this level of patriotism, commitment, and clarity of purpose displayed so far, every sector will experience a revival, not just security.”
