The Kano Hisbah board says it has seized a truck loaded with more than 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks in the state.

On Wednesday, Abba Sufi, the director general of the board in the state, said the seizure of the illicit drinks occurred on Zaria road, adding that the truck driver and two other persons were also arrested.

“The truck containing over 24,000 bottles of assorted alcoholic beverages was confiscated from smugglers along Zaria road at midnight,” he said.

“Hisbah personnel in the state have been proactive in enforcing zero-tolerance policy against smuggling of beer and other intoxicating substances into the state.”

In 2022, Kano hisbah destroyed over three million bottles of assorted beer as part of the state’s efforts “to address drug abuse, intoxication and other societal vices”.

A viral report recently claimed that the liquor and licensing board in Niger state banned the sale of alcohol in nine LGAs.

Umar Bago, governor of the state, quickly denied issuing any directive banning the sale of alcohol in any part of the state.

Bago also ordered the arrest of the “fake” secretary of the liquor board.
