‘Hoodlums’ behead LP chieftain in Abia

Zachary Nmaduka, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), in Amelechi Akpukpa Uturu of Isuikwuato LGA of Abia state, has been killed by yet-to-be-known assailants.

Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson of the police command in the state, on Thursday, said Nmaduka was “violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants” in his neighbourhood.

Chinaka said the police found the lifeless body of the 70-year-old man at the scene, adding that an investigation is ongoing on the matter.

“On September 13, 2023, at approximately 8:30 PM The DPO Uturu Police division [acted]on discreet information concerning the unfortunate murder of Hon. Zachary Nmaduka, also known as Power Zack M, a 70-year-old native of Ezieke Akpukpa Uturu,” Chinaka wrote in a statement.

“Mr Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint.

“Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel was swiftly dispatched to the scene.

“Tragically, they recovered Mr. Nmaduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains were promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu.”

Reacting to the incident,  Obiora Ifoh, the national spokesperson of LP, condemned the death of Nmaduka, who was the chairman of the party in the local government.
