Hoodlums have set ablaze a high court in Owutu-Edda, Afikpo south LGA of Ebonyi state.

Oluchi Uduma, the registrar of the court, confirmed the incident to journalists in Owutu-Edda on Wednesday.

She said the hoodlums invaded the court on Tuesday and set the building ablaze.

Uduma explained that the court building, documents, and other valuables were completely burnt.

Chima Nkama, chairman of Afikpo south LGA, also confirmed the incident, adding that the matter has been reported to the police.

In December 2022, the magistrate court in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, was razed by gunmen.

The incident occurred hours after the high court in Orlu LGA of Imo was set ablaze.

The burning of courts in the south-east geopolitical zone is the latest in the series of violent acts perpetrated by non-state actors.
