Residents of Michika and Madagali towns in Adamawa state have recounted how Boko Haram fighters raided their homes on Monday and carted away food items and money.

Some residents of the town told TheCable that the insurgents came into the town late in the night, shooting sporadically into the air, as they scare people away from their homes.

According to the locals, the attack was a clear indication that the insurgents had run short of food items and funds in their camps as they were said to have bombed the safe of a commercial bank in Michika to enable them cart away money, while shops were ransacked for food items.

Michika and Madagali were local government areas under the control of Boko Haram when the group held sway in 2014. The towns were later liberated by the troops.

The residents said they had begun to forget the trauma of the insurgency until the Boko Haram fighters struck again on Monday.

Paschal Zira, a resident of Michika, said he was among those who slept on the mountain top for safety when the insurgent raided the town on Monday, while many were wounded in the process of fleeing and one person was bitten by a snake.

He lamented that when he returned on Tuesday morning, he discovered that they had carted away his money and food items, leaving him with nothing.

Zira also complained that the insurgents broke into many shops and made away with money and valuables.

He said two men died of heart attack after hearing the sound of sporadic gunshots.

However, reports from the affected areas revealed that the insurgents boycotted Gulak and Shuwa towns where there were concentrated number of the troops and went through Krisshinga village to attack other villages in Michika town.

Ahmed Sajoh, the state commissioner of information and strategy, said more troops had been deployed in the affected areas to quell the situation.

He said according to the report he received, the troops were able repel the insurgents while normalcy have begun to return to the troubled areas.
