Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, on Sunday assisted a man who was kidnapped in Rivers state to regain freedom.

According to a statement by his media office, Amaechi was on his way to Ubimini, a community in Emohua local government area, when he sighted an abandoned Lexus SUV by the road.

The minister, who was to address some supporters of the All Progressives Congress  (APC) in that area, ordered his security team to comb the forest in search of the occupants of the vehicle.

In the process, one Chinda Edi was found. Edi reportedly narrated how they where attacked by some men who had AK 47s and other dangerous weapons.

“We were eight in the car and they succeeded in kidnapping seven others,” Edi was quoted as saying.

“While they were beating and forcing us into the bush I managed to escape to the other side of the forest.”

The statement added that the minister directed his security aides to continue the search for the other people and ensure the kidnappers were arrested and made to face the law.
