Adesina Akinpelu, an aide of Sunday ‘Igboho’ Adeyemo, a youth leader, says operatives from different security agencies intercepted the convoy in which he was travelling on Friday.

Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has been in the spotlight since he issued an eviction notice to Fulani herders in the Ibarapa area of Oyo state, blaming them for a spate of kidnapping and other violent activities.

His aide told TheCable that the security operatives “calmed down” after Igboho identified himself and his men exchanged strong words with them.

“We were travelling along Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Thursday. When we reached a spot around Guru Mahraji place, just after Ibadan old toll gate, we were our convoy was intercepted by combined team of security forces. I noticed police, DSS and military in the team that intercepted us,” Akinpelu said.

“We alighted from our vehicles and confronted them. Igboho also came down and identified himself to them. We asked for warrant of arrest from them if at all they had come for him and also demanded for our offence. They remained there with no response to any of our requests.

“Then, one of them said, ‘where is the criminal?’ Another later said that they were not there for Igboho but a criminal. Some people around, who noticed the confrontation and saw Igboho joined us and said they would resist any attempt to arrest him.

“Seeing that any attempt to touch him could lead to a huge violence, they calm down and we left. I cannot say that they came to arrest him since the people did not say their mission. There was no shot fired, no injury and no arrest was made. It happened around 2pm.”
