On January 24, the national assembly said 35 constitution amendment bills have been passed by state assemblies.

The senate, thereafter, asked the clerk to transmit the 35 bills — out of the 44 constitution amendment bills — to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.

A full list of the bills sent to the president for assent is available here.

While presenting a report on the bills, Opeyemi Bamidele, lawmaker from Ekiti, said 27 state houses of assembly considered the 35 bills

The states that have passed their resolutions on the bills were listed as Abia, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, and Edo.

Others are Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kogi, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, and Yobe.

According to sections 9(2) and (3) of the 1999 constitution, two-thirds of all the state assemblies — 24 states — are required for each amendment to be approved.

In a breakdown shared by the Policy and Legal Advisory Centre (PLAC), state lawmakers in Rivers rejected the bill seeking to enforce legislative summons, while the Imo state house of assembly rejected a bill on financial autonomy of state legislatures and state judiciary.
