Humphrey Anumodu, a gubernatorial hopeful of the Labour Party (LP) for the November 11 election in Imo, has died.

Excel Ochiama, Imo LP’s deputy chair, said Anumodu died on Friday night at his residence in Lagos.

Ochiama said the deceased had purchased the party’s nomination form for the upcoming governorship election in Imo and had filled and returned it to the secretariat.

It is said that the Imo LP governorship hopeful died of cardiac arrest after returning from a party meeting in Abuja.

However, the family is yet to make an official announcement.

Anumodu, who hails from Obilubi Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo, was a three-time gubernatorial contender in the state.

He contested in 2019 under the platform of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and finished sixth with 3,999 votes.

He first contested the position in 1998 while still with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but he lost the primary to Achike Udenwa who went on to win the 1999 governorship election and lead the state for eight years.

Anumodu was a renowned businessman and brother to Willie, the founder of Globe Motors Nigeria.
