Delta state has been declared free of Lassa fever disease, Patrick Ukah, the commissioner for information, has announced.
The commissioner made the information known in Asaba on Wednesday when he briefed journalists on some of the decisions made at the state executive council meeting.
Nicholas Azinge, the commissioner for health, told the council that following the death of one person in the state from Lassa fever, 55 quarantined persons had been cleared.
On August 22, Azinge had confirmed the outbreak of lassa fever disease in the state following the death of one person and 32 others placed on close surveillance,
According to Ukah, the 55 people have finally been declared free from the disease.
“I am happy to announce to you that the state has been declared free from Lassa fever but the general public have been advised to observe all sanitation laws,” Ukah said.
The commissioner also announced the approval of the government to subsidise the cost of waste bins bought by government for use by households.
The bins cost N10,000 each.
He said that government would ensure that the channels of waste evacuations were strengthened to maintain and sustain cleaner and healthier environment and the well being of the people.
Ukah said that government also approved the building of two public primary and five secondary schools in four local government areas to meet the education need of the people.
