The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has declared Gimba Yau Kumo, a former son-in-law of President Muhammadu Buhari, wanted over an alleged $65 million fraud.

In a notice published on Thursday, Azuka Ogugua, spokesperson of the anti-graft commission, said Kumo is declared wanted alongside Tarry Rufus and Bola Ogunsola over alleged misappropriation and dispersion of national housing funds.

Kumo, a former managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, married Fatima, the president’s daughter, in 2016 at Daura, Katsina state, but the relationship has now ended.

“The persons whose pictures appear above, Mr. Tarry Rufus, Mr. Gimba Yau Kumo and Mr. Bola Ogunsola, are hereby declared WANTED by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with issues bordering on misappropriation of National Housing Funds and diversion of the sum of Sixty Five Million dollars ($65,000,000),” the ICPC said.

“Anyone who has useful information on their whereabouts should report to ICPC Headquarters Abuja, any of the ICPC State Offices or the nearest police station.”

In April, the senate committee on public accounts summoned Kumo to explain the alleged irregular award of N3 billion contract when he was still at the bank.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect the fact that Kumo is a former son-in-law to the president.

It soothes Buhari and his errand boys to now try to distance him from the husband of his daughter, Fatima Buhari, Mr. Gimba Yau Kumo. We must wonder how Gimba Yau secured the job of managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank with his next to nothing academic and professional qualifications. What was the qualification of the this guy when Buhari appointed him as managing director? Muhammadu Buhari has shown very little regard for merit. Appointments into government-owned corporations have been heavily lopsided and merit has been heavily ignored in preference for man-know-man and family connections.
The son-in-law that Buhari is denying today because his marriage to Buhari’s daughter has hit the rocks is now wanted in the misappropriation of the sum of $65 million. $65 million meant for the National Housing Funds. Suddenly Buhari no longer know Gimba Yau Kumo. My guess is that the 61-year old most likely used and dumped Fatima once he got the job he wanted from her father.
Buhari has been a disaster and a man that can no longer be trusted by the Nigerian people. He has also fast-tracked his nephew and former personal assistant Sabiu Tunde Yusuf into a senior position at the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, NIA. The boy has been moved from a level of low competence to a level of total incompetence, thanks to Buhari’s man-know-man.
