The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it does not have files “implicating” President Bola Tinubu in its offices.

On Friday, a report alleged that officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) “removed” all incriminating files relating to Tinubu and close aides from ICPC and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The report claimed that the secret police allegedly asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to steer clear of political cases for now.

Reacting in a statement posted on its Twitter page on Saturday, the ICPC said the allegation is untrue.

“The alleged carting away of such imaginary files is unfounded and should be disregarded by the public,” the commission said.

The ICPC said it does not dispute the role of the media to inform the public, but called for responsible reporting.

“For the umpteenth time, the commission wishes to urge media organisations not to allow the use of their medium to propagate lies and unfounded reports by subversive agents,” the commission said.

“The commission’s channels of communications remain open for clarification and confirmation.”
