The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Ogun says it has apprehended 33 illegal immigrants in Odeda LGA of the state.

Yakubu Jibrin, the state controller of immigration, announced the development while parading the immigrants at the command’s office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Jibrin said the command deployed its officers for surveillance after it got information on November 7 of some illegal immigrants in Odeda.

According to Jibrin, the immigrants, comprising 32 Chadians and one Togolese, were without any valid travel documents when they were intercepted.

“After receiving that information on November 7, I decided to send my people there for surveillance which they did for some days to confirm that information, and luckily for us on Wednesday, we struck the two locations that were assumed to be occupied by these people and we were able to apprehend 33 of them. We brought them here to the command and we have started profiling them,” Jibrin said.

“After profiling them, we discovered that out of 33 of them, 32 are Chadian nationals while only one of them is a Togolese.

“We tried to find out why these people are here and also from the same country and they told us that they were invited to do networking business. We tried to see the type of product this Togolese whom they claimed recruited them for business does and to be frank, he cannot show us anything.”

Jibrin said the suspects will be repatriated after due consultations with their countries of origin.

He urged members of the public to be more vigilant given the security situation in the country.
