Nigeria has signed an agreement with LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, for the establishment of a 1,000-megawatt (MW) capacity solar panel production factory in the country.
According to a statement dated October 16, the deal, facilitated by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) on behalf of the federal government, was sealed during a follow-up visit by a Nigerian delegation to China.
The visit had followed an earlier memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between both parties earlier in the year, according on the company’s website.
Speaking on the development, Mustapha Abdullahi, director-general of the ECN, described the agreement as a “significant milestone in Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape”, saying it underscores the country’s commitment to expanding local solar manufacturing capacity and driving clean energy adoption.

“ECN’s presentation highlighted Africa’s growing market and the demand potential for solar mini-grids, while emphasizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Policy, which seeks to accelerate access to clean energy across Nigeria,” the statement reads.
“LONGi expressed strong interest in investing in Nigeria and demonstrated readiness to advance concrete plans for the construction of the factory.”
The ECN said it is looking forward to working closely with LONGi and the federal government to realise this transformative initiative, which will create jobs, enhance energy security, and drive sustainable development across the country.
