ICYMI: You are cursed if you don’t pay tithe, says Oyedepo
David Oyedepo, presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, says Christians who do not not pay tithe are financially cursed.
Oyedepo, who said this via his Twitter handle on Thursday, described tithing as a “covenant obligation”.
According to the pastor, “tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation.
“Prosperity not just wealth is impossible without tithing, because when you’re not paying your tithe, you’re under a financial curse.”

Oyedepo’s comments drew varied responses on Twitter, with most users attacking him.
A user by the name Wesley Orunta responded that his claim is not true as “there is no scripture that ties prosperity or wealth to tithing under the new priesthood.”
“We can’t be conveniently cherry-picking the scriptures to support what is sweet to our ears. Heb 7:12,” he wrote, adding: “Let’s focus on the gospel of Christ and less on these covetous messages.”

Another user tweeting via @KingMichael also questioned Adeboye’s claim, saying Jesus never forced people to pay tithe.
“How will he now curse those who believe in him bcs of 10% of their salaries. God is a merciful & loving God. God is love,” he said.
But Jesus Christ our Lord the owner of the Church never threatened nor force anyone on tithing sake. ..he who comes to me shall by no means be cast away. How will he now curse those who believe in him bcs of 10% of their salaries. God is a merciful & loving God. God is love.

However, a user with the name Maxwell Kente supported the pastor’s comments, warning those condemning him of the risk of being “cursed.”
“We pay and God is blessing us,” he said, adding: “if you won’t then seal your mouth. You can be cursed for sounding rude at the blessed man of God.”
