The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has expelled Uzokwe Peter, member of the house of representatives for Nnewi north, Nnewi south and Ekwusigo federal constituency of Anambra, over allegations of anti-party activities.

This decision was announced during the party’s 24th extra-ordinary national executive committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

A communiqué signed by Egbeola Martins, YPP’s national publicity secretary, dated December 4, said Peter’s expulsion was upheld following “multiple petitions” and “verified video evidence demonstrating gross misconduct” that violated several provisions of the party’s constitution.

In the viral clip, Uzokwe could be heard throwing his weight behind Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, in the recently held governorship election in the state.

“YPP is not contesting any election. Did you hear me? I am the leader of YPP, and my supporters are here. In my constituency, I have told them to collapse it for His Excellency Chukwuma Soludo,” Uzokwe said in the video clip.

“We are not contesting any election. Even if we contest any, it has to be for Anambra North. So, YPP is not contesting. Only APGA and Soludo are running for this election. I will be home till after the election when His Excellency (Soludo) is returned to office.”

The party said it has a zero-tolerance stance on behavior undermining unity and cohesion within the YPP.

“We reaffirm zero-tolerance policy for acts that undermine party unity, discipline and cohesion,” Martins said.

In addition to disciplinary actions, the NEC approved the election of new national officers to fill existing vacancies in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

The newly elected officials include Nana Mahmoud as deputy national chairperson; Chigozie Udogu as deputy national secretary; Uche Levis as national legal adviser; Owoyombo Solomon as acting national youth leader; Paul Chukwuma as national leader; Sani Darma as north-west zonal chairman; and Olatunbosun Abolarinwa as national security adviser.
