Odion Ighalo, Changchun Yatai FC striker, says he wasn’t excluded from Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles squad for international friendlies because he moved to the Chinese League.

Rohr had excluded Mikel Obi and Ighalo from the list of players to prosecute the upcoming friendly matches in London against Senegal and Burkina Faso.

Ighalo told TheCable that he excused himself from the game to have ample time to settle down at his new club.

“No! No! There’s no truth in that. The coach did not leave me out because I moved to China,” he said.

“I spoke to him and agreed that I need to settle down in my team well first. The league will be starting in some days and I am new here.

“I need to settle down with the team.”

Ighalo said the Eagles gaffer is very understanding and always considers the situation of his players before taking decisions.

“Rohr is a wonderful coach who understands and knows what he is doing. He has the interest of his players at heart and will always support us,” he said.

The Super Eagles will square up against Senegal’s Teranga Lions on Thursday, March 23, before taking on the Etalons of Burkina Faso four days later.
