IGP tests negative for coronavirus

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), and 11 other police officers have tested negative for Coronavirus.

Frank Mba, force public relations officer, said the IGP’s test result was received on Tuesday after samples were submitted on Friday, March 27.

The PRO also revealed that he took the test and it came out negative.

According to the statement, other officers who also tested negative were Idowu Owohunwa, principal staff officer to the IGP; Lanre Ogunlowo, head of the force technical intelligence unit; Nonye Welle, personal physician to the IGP.

Others are Titus Adegbite, the medical officer, police clinic at the force headquarters; Moses Jolugbo, secretary to the IGP; and five other close aides to the police boss.

The IGP noted that that policing is a high-contact job which comes with attendant risks. He therefore urged officers nationwide to “adhere strictly to all precautionary and safety measures in the course of their duties.”

Mba asked the public to voluntarily obey all restriction orders imposed by the constituted authorities.

Nigeria has recorded 135 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Of the 135 confirmed cases, Lagos state has 81, FCT has 25, and Oyo has eight cases.

Osun has five cases, Ogun has four, Kaduna has three, while Edo, Enugu, and Bauchi states have two cases each. Ekiti, Rivers and Benue states have recorded one case each.

Eight patients have recovered and have been discharged by the Lagos state government.

So far, two deaths have been recorded.
