Celtic Football Club in Scotland have announced the signing of Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho.

‎Iheanacho signed a one-year deal with the Scottish Premier League (SPL) champions on Tuesday, subject to international clearance.

The football player has the option of staying with the club for a further year, according to a statement released by Celtic.

The attacking midfielder, nicknamed Senior Man, joins the club less than 48 hours after his contract with Sevilla was terminated by mutual consent.

He teams up with Brendan Rodgers, Celtic coach, for a second time, following their previously successful relationship at Leicester City.

Speaking about the transfer, Rodgers hailed Iheanacho’s talent and attributes. He also assured Celtic fans that the Nigerian international will play an important role at the club.

“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team,” the former Liverpool coach stated.

“He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.

‎“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us.

“I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”

Iheanacho becomes the third Nigerian international to play for Celtic, following in the footsteps of Ibrahim Rabiu, and Efe Ambrose.
