Shinji Okazaki will be satisfied with his start to the new Premier league season, having scored two goals in two games, although the first ended in a narrow defeat.

His fine form of the opening weeks, Okazaki has said, is down to the arrival of Nigerian Kelechi Iheneacho from Manchester City.

According to the Leicester City forward, Iheanacho’s arrival is a form of a wake-up call for him to improve his game.

“Iheanacho coming in to join the team is a good competition for me,” Okazaki told TheCable

“And I love the challenge to make me perform better.

“I love the Nigerian players because they are good guys.”

Okazaki, 31, said winning the league in the 2015/16 EPL season was his most important accomplishment in football. “Winning the league was the greatest achievement of my career,” he said.

Asked if it’s possible for the Foxes to repeat the feat this term, the player said: “It’s difficult to say that we will win the league like we did two years ago because the season just started.

“We will take a match at a go and work hard to win every game.”

An aspect of his game the forward would love to improve on is goalscoring. “Personally, I would love to score more goals,” said the Japanese striker.

After being beaten 3-4 by Arsenal on the opening day of the season, the Foxes on Saturday recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
