Nigeria’s Carl Ikeme’s Wolverhampton FC have been promoted to the English Premier League (EPL).

Wolves’ six years absence from top-flight football ended on Saturday despite not being in action.

The championship leaders, who will play Birmingham on Sunday, secured a return to the EPL after third-placed Fulham failed to beat Brentford.

Brentford’s Neil Maupay headed home from close range in the fourth minute of injury time to deny Fulham a victory that would have put them a point ahead of Cardiff, who won 2-0 at Norwich.

Fulham remain third on the championship table.

Ikeme, Super Eagles goalkeeper, was in 2017 diagnosed with acute leukaemia and he is currently undergoing treatment.

He is expected to make a special appearance during Nigeria’s upcoming friendly game against England.
